ProStart mentors are the key to successful workplace learning. They are the folks "in the trenches,"
encouraging and challenging students to get the most out of their internships. They teach students
the basic hands-on skills of foodservice. They also pass on "insider's knowledge" - all the little
things that make a superstar employee shine! As a ProStart mentor, you will play different roles at
different times, according to the student employee's needs.
- Role Model
- Leads by example, helping students develop effective professional habits.
- Teacher
- Instructs students in various areas - not limited to job tasks.
- Supervisor
- Gives direction. Thinks in terms of how students fit into the needs of the organization.
- Coach
- Provides motivation and information to help students meet performance expectations. Gives on-going feedback and encouragement.
- Counselor
- Helps students work through personal problems or attitudes affecting performance on the job.
- Mentor
- Helps students connect present performance to their futures.Provides overall support for student's goals, carerr, competence and character development.
