ProStart Exam Help

The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) website, prostart.restaurant.org, has added features to make it easier to administer exams and the ProStart program.  There is now an online application to register for access to the site, including exam scheduling and program-specific information. This process eliminates frustrations with accessing and administering exams.

STEP ONE  - REGISTER ONLINE (If you have completed this step since the start of the 2010-2011 school year, advance to step two.  If you have not completed this step this school year, even if you have an old password, please complete step one before advancing to step two.)

The first step is to register online at www.prostart.restaurant.org

Click on REGISTER AS AN EDUCTOR

Select PROSTART EDUCATOR

Select CREATE NEW PROFILE

Fill out the form provided.

Click SAVE in the bottom right hand corner.

After you complete all of the steps, NRA will email you the confirmed User ID and Password.

STEP TWO - SCHEDULE/DOWNLOAD EXAMS

Go to www.prostart.restaurant.org

Click on SCHEDULE/DOWNLOAD EXAMS

Enter your EXISTING USER information

Under the Schedule Class tab, choose CREATE Class beside the textbook you want to set up an exam for.

Accept the Proctor Agreement - During this step you may print off the Exam Administration Handbook.  This is recommended if you do not have an updated copy.

Schedule either an Online or Print based exam.  (Online exams are only available for the new textbooks.)

Complete the Print Exam Schedule Form

If your Organization is not an option in the Organization box, click on the word Organization. The system will then do a search for your organization.

Continue the process to include entering the exam date and location.

Print off the Exam Administration Form and the Exams.  You must return the Exam Administration Form when you return the scantrons.

STEP THREE - SCANTRONS

To order scantrons, please contact Sandy Salazar at sandy.salazar@pearson.com.

ProStart Certificate of Achievement

ProStart students are eligible to earn the National ProStart Certificate of Achievement.  This Certificate gives students access to national and statewide articulation agreements and scholarship opportunities.

STEP ONE - PROSTART EXAMS

Student must take and pass the Year One and Year Two ProStart Exams.

To order exams and/or scantrons, please see Administering ProStart Exams.

STEP TWO - WORK EXPERIENCE

Student must work at least 400 hours in the foodservice industry.  This school year (2010-2011), 200 of the hours may be signed off by the instructor, unpaid.

The remaining 200 hours have to be in a foodservice position.  They can be paid or unpaid.

STEP THREE - DOCUMENT HOURS

Student provides proof of work hours to the instructor.

Proof of work hours can be provided by a check stub or a letter from the employer.  The check stub should contain cumulative hours worked.  If it does not, we need a copy of every check stub.  The letter from the employer needs to contain name, address and phone number of the employer along with total hours worked and time frame for hours worked (i.e. Dec 2009 through Jan 2011).

STEP FOUR - STUDENT WORK EXPERIENCE CHECKLIST

Employer completes the Student Work Experience Checklist for time the student was employed.  Using the same form, the instructor completes the Student Work Experience Checklist for the time the instructor signed off on.  Please keep in mind, the instructor can only sign off on competencies that were demonstrated during the work hours, not competencies demonstrated during class hours.

STEP FIVE - STUDENT WORK VALIDATION FORM

Instructor completes the Student Work Validation Form and returns to FRALEF.

Along with the completed form, instructor should send proof of work hours and completed Student Work Experience Checklist.

Send documentation via fax to 850-224-2871 or FRLAEF, PO Box 1779, Tallahassee, FL  32302.

STEP SIX - Certificate

FRLAEF staff completes the Student Work Validation Form and sends to NRAEF.

NRAEF issues the certificate and mails to the school.
