Tracking Study

Tracking Study Results 2007-2008

Principal Approval Form

Parental Permission Form

Since the 2005 school year, the FLRAEF has conducted a study to collect the data necessary to prove students are leaving the ProStart program and continuing in the foodservice industry. In the past we partnered with specific high schools so we could make sure we worked all of the "kinks" out of the system before we conducted the study statewide.  This academic year, we hope to expand the study to a representative group of programs statewide.

We want to learn how students feel about the ProStart Program so that we can work to improve it.  Secondly, we want to continue following ProStart students after they finish high school.  As you know, the ProStart class does not have unique course codes, thus making specific student identification and tracking somewhat more difficult.  However, with the help of past schools we have been successful at collecting the data necessary.

If you are interested in participating, we will send a letter with all relevant information to your principal.  We must have administrative approval to collect information from your ProStart students.  After your administration approves your school’s participation, then we will ask your students’ parents to approve the release of this information.  These forms can not be distributed to your students until your principal has approved your participation.  Ultimately, we would like for your students to complete two online surveys during the school year.  The first survey will be done in the fall.  The second survey will be done in the spring.

You may be aware of the Florida Education and Training Placement Information Program (FETPIP) which was begun decades ago by the Florida Department of Education to aid in tracking vocational students.  Please know that all information will be kept STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL RECORDS AND REPORTS BE RELEASED TO ANY PARTY WHICH CONTAINS INDIVIDUALLY IDENTIFIABLE STUDENT INFORMATION. Each student will remain anonymous.  Dr. Philip Grise, a researcher on staff at Florida State University, will be conducting the study, using both surveys and FETPIP follow-up data.  Dr. Grise conducted the previous studies with the ProStart programs and has performed many similar studies in various educational areas.
